Campus Congress – Cutting the space

‘Cutting the space’

Incisions are made in the room in order to improve the light quality of the whole. The incisions create an interesting play of light and shadow. The incisions are arbitrary.

In this intervention one can make the link to the Jewish Museum of Libeskind or the cuttings of Gordon Matta-Clark. Making different cuts is another attempt to get more light into the room. This is a formal answer to bring more light and air into the room. The incisions also make contact between the different floors.

In the original design, it was decided to remove pieces from the building with a grinding wheel. Due to the lack of time and to maintain peace, this intervention was reduced to its current form. By using slide projectors you get a good idea of where the incisions will be located. By providing the incisions in the building, it is possible for the visitor to get a good overview of what is going on outside. This intervention draws attention to the simple things that we see every day but that we do not pay attention to. Things like the sun or a cloud drifting by peacefully.
